Tattoo 2002

This was an interesting film. The DVD cover makes comparisons to David Fincher's Se7en, which, concept-wise at least, I agree with. Se7en is a masterwork of tone and darkness, which Tattoo certainly isn't, but it is a decent enough film with performances that work and a story that engages.

I especially liked how the plot centred on this well meaning but pretty incompetent rookie cop whilst he doggedly uncovers an underworld of tattoo harvesting and collecting. Whether intentional or not, it was almost a comedy of errors. He did as much damage as he did good, and alot of his success comes from being in the right place at the right time. To look at it like that - his character journey could be described as meandering absurdity through fornunate discovery - somewhere inbetween something like Johnny English and things like The Long Goodbye or Inherent Vice.

It comes recommended as one of those no expectations finds.
