With preparation for this year's Cheltenham International Film Festival in full swing, many of our wonderful team are working on compiling the programme. I will be posting my thoughts on the films I watch.
Not a word - 3.5/5
Moody, admirably understated, well made and well acted examination of an overworked mother and undernourished son whose relationship is based on long seated resentment and tension - which is captured well by the actors. Interestingly, despite the chasm between them, the film resists the urge to focus on the reasons, there is no culmination of a shouting match between them. She doesn't once call him anything affectionate, they simply don't have anything to say to eachother most of the time - they are almost bystanders in the dysfunctional relationship. Quite a niche story, not a huge amount to talk about afterwards.
I spotted a nice nod to Paris, Texas whilst focusing on a car window late on.
