Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Roman Polanski's horror classic crackles with slowly building tension and energy, burrows into your mind and won't let go. The film centres on Mia Farrow's Rosemary and John Cassavettes' Guy, newlyweds who move into an apartment building and plan to start a family. After some strange occurances and meeting some over enthusiastic neighbours who become more meddling than helpful, Guy's behaviour begins to become out of character, with potentially devilish intentions. This was Polanski's final film before the infamous Manson murders which claimed his partner Sharon Tate as a victim, and reportedly sent him into a dark period of his life, which has recieved wide media coverage and ensured he didn't make a film for five years, after which came his greatest work, the just about perfect Chinatown.
Tuesday (4/10) 22:35 BBC4 Collective: Unravelling a Scandal (2019)
This documentary examines the events that took place in Bucharest, 2007, after a pyrotechnics failure caused a deadly fire to break out in the Colectiv nightclub during a heavy metal concert, real footage of which is shown. What followed was a political scandal in the wake of many burn victims dying in hospital due to poor care, hygiene and conditions. Journalist's from a local gazette launch an independent investigation that uncovered hugely lacking policies and practices, specifically with diluted disinfectants and government corruption, seen through the integration of a new health minister in the city.
