This is exactly the kind of film I need every once in a while, something entirely unexpected, inscrutable, and unforgettable. The plot, if there is one, is buried under so much inventiveness and creativeness of style, that it is all but invisible.
Tetsuo certainly falls into the 'experimental body horror' genre, and as an experience sits somewhere between Pi and Eraserhead for me. There is a connection with the anime classic Akira, which was released the year before. Tetsuo is the main character of Akira, who morphs drastically at the end, are the stories about the same affliction?
It's hard to say whether I loved it or not, but I certainly liked it, and at a brisk 64 minutes, I will be rewatching soon to compound my thoughts. I wouldn't be surprised if I really go for it second time around. I love films that are unapologetically based on a vision , with no appeasement to audiences. This is one of those - a good find indeed.
