Animal House

I watched National Lampoons Animal House for the first time yesterday. I didn't find it totally worked for me but It certainly had its moments.. what I took away from it most (besides being the only appearance I've seen, other than in the simply sublime Amadeus, of Tom Hulce) is the clear influence it had on other comedies I like. I saw very obvious aspects of How High and Jay and Silent Bob strike back, plus lots of more subliminal connections with Austin Powers, Porky's, Simpsons/Futurama episodes and perhaps my favourite comedy series American Pie. Also there were many lines in it that I knew I had heard elsewhere.

I always appreciate noticing connections like these in films, for instance I recently watched the 1959 Western classic Rio Bravo, in which the old station hand Stumpy says 'how do you like dem apples?', next time I rewatch Good Will Hunting i will be reminded of good old Stumpy chucking the dynamite at the baddies for John Wayne to shoot.

Surprise film connections that show influences taken or given, anyone have any?
